New model ipad no automatic back up

All instructions have been followed. Plugged to power, on wifi, locked screen, lots of cloud space but does not back up. It works without issues only manually. Running ios 12.4. Any suggestions please? Thanks.

Try this. Before going to bed, make sure the iPad is powered on, connected to wifi, plugged into charge and the screen locked.


Sleep.


Wake up and check the following: Settings > Your Name, iCloud, Apple ID, App Store & iTunes > iCloud > Backup (make sure it's turned on of course)


See what it shows as the last backup date and time
