importing DV footage into iMovie
Why won't Iatest version of iMovie not accept DV footage from my Sony HDR1000 Digital Video Recorder? I am using DV out from Sony via FW800/Thunderbolt adapter into my iMac, but Sony is not recognized by iMovie.

Hi, Chris,
One thing that has helped others with camera recognition problems on import is to start the camera running before beginning the import.
To cover the bases, here's a link that gives step by step instructions on how to import from a tape based camcorder into iMovie:
https://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.1/#/mov6af9c94c1
Your camcorder is not shown on iMovie's list of supported camcorders. That doesn"t necessarily mean that you camera is not supported, because iMovie supports most tape based cameras that are not shown on the list.
If iMovie still does not recognize your camera after following the instructions on the above link import instead into the Photos app, and then you can access your media from the Photos item in the sidebar of an iMovie project.
If still no luck, use the image capture app in the Utilities Folder of your Mac to import to your desktop. Then drag the videos from there into iMovie.
It also is possible that you have a faulty cable, faulty adaptor or a faulty socket.
