Find my friends

Am I able to see where any iPhone is as long as the find my iPhone app is installed on their phone? And do they get notified? Also do I need their iCloud email or can I just use their phone number ??

See this article https://support.apple.com/kb/PH23049?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

When you send a request three options are shown as hourly , for one day , indefinitely , and yes they are notified on mail ( and they have to request the invitation) .

As per this article https://support.apple.com/kb/PH19446?locale=en_US

If you’re receiving invitations via email because friends are using an email address other than the one you use with Find My Friends, link the email address to your Apple ID. Then, requests sent to that email address will appear in Find My Friends.

The Find My iPhone app is not what lets you seem them no. Wether its installed on their devices or not is irrelevant.

You need the Find My Friends App on your device to see their shared location.

You can’t unilaterally track people no. For Find My Friends to work the other people need to share their location and they get to determine for how long its shared, and if they own more than one device from which it can be shared, they can select what device’s location is shared.

You need their email to add them to find my friends, iCloud or other email. Their phone number is not used.

Once you invite them, they need to agree to share their location with you, you cannot simply locate them unilaterally.
