Can't see what's in iCloud Backup, storage running out of space

Most of the space being taken up is a purple bar called "Backup" (on iCloud.com), and I'm not seeing any options to do anything about it or even see what's in it. I can't even tell which device it's coming from. When I check my devices (iPod, iPad, and Mac), nothing adds up even close to the purple bar.

As per this article https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT204136

  • Always encrypts your backups

So you can't physically see the contents inside it , if you running out of storage see this article https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT204247

I can't even see what's in the majority of it, which is this giant purple Backup chunk on iCloud.com!

No you can't and never have been able to. Just as tygb said above.

iCloud backups are not accessible at the file level. You can restore the entire backup as is or not. There is no in between. Apple provides no tool allowing you to see what's in an iCloud backup.

need to move some files off of iCloud Backup (as they're archived project files anyway that I won't be editing), but I'm not seeing how to move them over to my Mac and put them on a backup drive.

So again... if these files are in your iCloud backup, they are not accessible unless you restore the entire backup to an iOS device after erasing it. The contents of the iCloud backup will overwrite any data that "was" there.

What are you talking about? This is the normal default iOS/Mac iCloud backup... I didn't enable it, I didn't choose to encrypt or not encrypt it, it just runs in the background, and now it's telling me it's almost full, and I can't even see what's in the majority of it, which is this giant purple Backup chunk on iCloud.com!

Please someone answer who knows what I'm talking about.

I went through my iOS devices and can see which apps it's backing up and how much space they're backing up, in iOS > Settings > Passwords & Accounts > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage, which shows Backups at 2.9GB, GarageBand at 831MB (the dozen left are less than 1GB), but tapping into Backup then shows 2.7GB on my iPad, and tapping into that shows 2.85GB of GarageBand (and it's enabled)... I can't tell if it's backing up GarageBand or its files redundantly as app files (project files) and as "documents".

Anyway, I'm OK with the files being on the iPad, but I just need to move some files off of iCloud Backup (as they're archived project files anyway that I won't be editing), but I'm not seeing how to move them over to my Mac and put them on a backup drive. I don't want them also backed up from the Mac redundantly, so I'm not even sure where to put them (the Mac has a 500GB hard drive and I'm going to use Time Machine backup anyway).
