Recent issues with iCloud and Windows 7/Outlook

Hi all. What I thought was an Outlook 2010/icloud issue turned out to be an issue that Windows 7 does not have schannel enabled for TLS 1.1/1.2. TLS 1.0 must have just been dropped from iCloud communications. I had to follow the following link to get this fixed (after hours hunting it down).

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/schrimsher/2016/07/08/enabling-tls-1-1-and-1-2-in-outlook-on-windows-7/

iCloud failed to integrate with Outlook 2010 with a vague error of "can't communication with server".

Even log messaged started to show up like the following each time I clicked the re-try button:

Log Name: System

Source: Schannel

Date: 8/3/2019 8:34:27 PM

Event ID: 36887

Task Category: None

Level: Error

Keywords:

User: SYSTEM

Computer: azxzaaz

Description:

The following fatal alert was received: 70.

Following the link above allowed Windows 7 to not work with TLS 1.1 and 1.2 as a client as well as since it was older Office suite also allow that to work as well.

Spread the word I think this is going to come up a lot now!!!

I was using Outlook 2013 on Windows 7 and icloud syncing stopped working a few days ago, I tried logging out of icloud an back in again and that just caused "Your setup couldn't be started because the iCloud server stopped responding" message to appear when trying to install icloud into outlook. This fixed the problem, although I aslo had to remove and then reinstall APLZOD32.dll

can't be certain that we have the same issue, but I went here (windows easyfix) and downloaded where the blue download button is. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3140245/update-to-enable-tls-1-1-and-tls-1-2-as-default-secure-protocols-in-wi

Saved and ran the download; restarted PC after completing download; and that did it (for me). Outlook didn't automatically have the iCloud add-in refresh buttons, so i had to enable them (Read farther up for my reply on that).

Others more savvy may have done things a diff way, but I couldn't explain that to you. Maybe read up on and/or let others give you a layman's term step by step before you do what I did -- I wouldn't want you to lose anything important, though i haven't noticed anything having erased on my end. Hope this helps!
