Macbook not loading past boot (freezes)

Hi all.

I am having trouble starting my mac.

It loads to a certain point and then stops. It has been frozen at the same spot for the past 30 minutes.

I have tried going into recovery and safe mode but nothing works. What should i do?

Did you recently upgrade your iOS? You may just need to let it run for a while and let it work itself out (that's what I did when I did the beta upgrade to Catalina. Took long enough to make me cold sweat that the computer wouldn't ever boot.)

Try rebooting the computer into Disk Utility and running the "repair disk" - https://support.apple.com/guide/disk-utility/repair-a-disk-dskutl1040/mac - and then restarting the machine. If that doesn't work, you can always restore from a Time Machine back up. Worst WORSE case, make an appointment with the apple help desk at a local store. Either way, don't panic yet... you still have options.

Try an SMC reset:

Try starting up in Safe Mode:

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support

If neither of those work boot into Recovery and Reinstall Mac OS.

About macOS Recovery - Apple Support

Try Single User Mode (hold command-s keys)

At the prompt, enter this command:

/sbin/fsck -fy

Press the Return key.

This will check your directory and report that it was OK or repaired. Then enter this command to startup normally:

reboot

Run Apple Diagnostics

Press and hold the d key on startup:

If none of those work make a Genius Bar appointment for a free diagnostic:
