family shared apple news asks for subscription on shared devices

I set up family sharing for Apple News and have received emails showing it's complete and both devices show it as shared but the new device which is sharing cannot open articles in news +. when clicking on an article, it pops up asking to subscribe.


How can I fix this...if I do click subscribe, will it charge the second account or will it realize it is a shared subscription?

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. I understand you’re having issues sharing your Apple News+ subscription. I’ll be happy to help with this.


If you're using Family Sharing and someone in your family group subscribes, you should see a message that you have access to the subscription when you open the News app and everyone in your family group should automatically have access to Apple News+ after you subscribe:


Join Apple News+ in the News app


If that’s not working as expected, start by restarting the iPhone that is having the issue and try accessing an Apple News+ article once more:


Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch


If that doesn’t work, check for an update in Settings > General > Software Update. If you do see an update available, back up the iPhone and install the update with these steps:


Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch


If the issue continues after that, go to Settings > Your Name and tap Sign Out. Restart your iPhone once more and sign back in. See if you can access the service as expected then.
