I have a five year old iPad Air. When I got it, I assigned a reasonably secure user name and password. Recently I had occasion to scan my home network for security with Avast and it flagged the iPad as having a weak password. The password and user name that it showed was not one that I had assigned. My assigned password works, so why is this other user name and password combination showing up on a scan and how can I get rid of or strengthen it?

You said it yourself it's scanning your home network for security.
It's not scanning your password for your iPad, it's scanning the password you use to connect to your router.

Where did you assign the username and password? iPad’s account system revolves around 1 passcode as well as your Apple ID neither which any security software would be able to read in order to analyze. It sounds like something is trying to scam you.
Thanks for all of your help. Although Avast is identifying the problems as with the iPad, it actually seems to be with the connection to my wifi signal extender.
Agree with you. No outside tool can possibly read the Apple ID and Password embedded in any iOS device. If that was possible, the FBI would have used this when they tried to bypass activation lock on an iPhone a couple years ago, which of course they were completely incapable of doing.
