I know that my wife was hitting the hold button with her face a lot, so I made an appt with the Genius Bar in Carlsbad. When I explained the issue and the MacBoi did a little investigating of his own, he saw the problem and told me, "I want you to have a phone that you are comfortable with and operates at it max potential" soon after disappearing behind those beautiful stainless steel doors, he came back with a brand new iPhone 4 for my wife (complete with plastic on it and all).

So if there is a legitimate issue with you hardware (prox sensor), have them take a look at it and see what they can do for you, just do not try to scam... Make sure there is a legit issue.

Looks like PC World wasn't too happy with the free bumper idea and "trying" to fix the proximity sensor issue. They've withdrawn their top 10 smartphone rating until they have a chance to see what the bumpers can do and *"when the phone's proximity sensor is fixed!"*

have they removed XBORKE2 from production? have they demanded production halted for the worst piece of broken RROD ridden garbage yet?

wonder why not, $$$ bribes. How can any sensible person take them seriously? first they rate iPhone 4 high, then after CR magazine takes a bribe from Monopolysoft, they recant on their lofty opinion ratings? LOL, who can find them credible after such antics? certainly not me, but i'm not human cattle.

Truth, M$ cancels the Kin lol, Courier(will just clone the iPad of course and call it Zune Pad HD or some nonsense), so they had to pay off CR magazine and the rest to slow down Apple's domination of the new tech wave that is Apple.

I'll take Apple, sweep a few pebbles from the path all will be fine, the only other alternative is just more clones of iPhone, iPad, iPod, OSX, iOS4 and Microsoft monopoly.

Don't give up to the almighty M$ bribe, hand in there things will work out fine. Use face time, or speaker phone if need be, never surrender.

You are the MAN ! The CEO of Apple telling us it is not fixed yet and would be addressed in the next software release but YOURS from the plastic covered box is already perfectly working !!

Also never Apple mentioned 0.55 % for Proximity sensor calls. It was only about antenna issue . Watch the conference more careful. You simply want to be happy with your phone regardless if it has problems.

Jul 17, 2010 10:41 AM in response to LorangeJuice

AS i mentioned I tested the antenna issue and I can see that everything Apple now ( not stupid comments 2 and 3 weeks ago ) saying is absolutely correct and bumpers is just making people happy.
Again , I tested and I can see that all the phones including 3G and 3GS if you grab them have the lost of signal.
Apple made excellent presentation on the Apple web to show it.
But proximity issue is not the same case. Thank you for your link.
I would agree with the PC Magazine . The only comment I would add that apple demonstrated that people still buy and still happy and Apple does not really care.
Remember the clip : " If you do not like iphone4 do not buy it . If you bought and you do not like it just return it ".

I think, when all is said and done, Apple will find that the reason the Iphone 4 is dropping 1 in 100 more calls than the 3G was dropping is that the proximity sensor problem is the true problem, not the antenna. I think my ear has hit "end call" at least 3 times this month and abruptly ended the calls. I know that my ear has pressed individual digits, dialed othr phone numbers, opened contacts, and attempted Facetime calls accidentally several other times. In playing around with it, my guess is that it is asoftware glitch thst results in slightly more delay in screen blanking than was present on my 3G. Maybe its related to the new need of the gyroscope to first calculate the position of the phone and the new calculation results in enough delay in the blanking algorithm for my ear to get the better of it (just a guess).

AT&T can distinguish between a "call drop" and when a call is ended by pressing the "end" key. Ending a call by an inadvertent press of the "end" key by you face would appear as a normally terminated call to the network.

I do think that some people may think that inadvertent call terminations due to the proximity sensor are the antenna issue. Maybe that is why the proximity sensor issue hasn't received as much attention (until now).

totally agreed and I wrote about this in an earlier post.

I totally agree with this post and discussed this in an earlier post. The yarn has just BEGUN to unravel on this issue. This will be at the forefront soon enough. It will have to be addressed and if Apple does not fix it or address it head on quickly, people will just resort to the phone being a bad product.

A lot of people will not find this thread.

A lot of people will not care and just want their phone to work.

I have a theory that the Whoopi incident was not just the antenna but it was this proximity face-dialing, muting, etc and she just became frustrated because she did not try to "analyze" her phone to figure out what was happening as most people here have.

Most users will not try to troubleshoot their own phones and if the experience is not up to par they will just get something else.

Now that the cat is out of the bag with free bumpers and all the clock is ticking. Apple should hurry and fix this asap. They can not take another hit on this product. The brand is on the line here. They will lose confidence and it won't matter how many they sell. They will no longer be looked at as a premium brand based on how they handle this.

Wait and see how many people wait on line next time if they do not fix this. I bet it wont be the same.

Apple again is just dealying the time to tell us the truth. Meanwhile they continue sales of their difective phones . You and me know they are defective.
But they say : if you do not like it return it. The rest of the people happy and we ( Apple ) do not see any big problem.
Apple can NOT tell the truth now. What they suppose to say ? We are looking at the prblem and may be ( just maybe ) it is a hardware ,but you only have 30 days. Then everybody will return the phones.
It is better to say "we are looking into this and would address in the next release". And next release is far from Now ( again what release ? Did he mention 4.1 ? It can be 4.2 or 4.3) . Meanwhile Apple continue to say they are the best continue to sell defective phones , continue to sell it in more countries and they do not care. Only 1% of peole return it the rest will be using defective phones and wait . Why ? Because those Love to know they have Iphone 4 .
Keep your phone and when Appple in 3 months will tell you it is only a minor issue and you had 30 days to return and you stuck with ATT plan , will se how much you still like the phone.
Now about your idea as many people as possible to report to apple about the problem. They know , they know very well but they will say only 1% of people asked. Because the rest of the peole will be in categories of specific unit exchange and not the Proximity sensor problem. They manipulate stats the way they need it.
Everything is to sell as many as possible and continue to tell the world product is great and only few people complain about proximity so why are you complaining ? What you are not happy as other 3 Millions peole ?
Then return it and we ( Appple) will make the rest of the world happy.
The real stats we can only estimate. Three million is sold but not delivered . about 400,000 delivered ( inluding exchanges ) and 200,000 people looked at this forum.
Why would someone look at the forum if this problem does not bother him ?
And even such peole exist what is the persantage. Not mentioning other forums , discusions and peole who called Apple , but the calls and visits never went to category of the proximity sensor problem.

This is the reality and this is the truth and not what we heard.

Figure this. The average phone user does not even know or care what a "proximity sensor" is or know what it does. They first have to know what it is called, then they have to go to Google or search online. Then they have to come here to find this thread.

I would go on a limb and say that more than 50-75 percent of the people having this problem just think their phone is buggy. They are on a call and phone jumps on speaker or initiates facetime.

They probably just look at the phone and are like what is going on with my phone. Something is buggy.

Now, if they cut the other person off or if they mute and the other person hangs up they probably just think it is the antenna.
