Dear iPhoneFanSince2G

Thank you . Just to make people to understand the issue.
When I first had the problem with Proximity sensor I did not know it is a proximity sensor , I even did not even know what is the Proximity sensor and how does it work on the iphone. I was trying to search the internet just for iphone problems and it took from me a while to compare the symptoms I had with what I later discovered to be the Proximity sensor issue. I am an engineer and still it took some time from me to learn the name and the nature of the decease. Imagine how many people call apple , come to apple stores , ATT stores and they have the same problem but NOBODY even tell them that is an Issue with the phone . They are told hold the phone differently , new phone is a great modern sensitive device and you should keep it away from your face and etc.
What kind of Hard Data Jobs is talking about in this environment ?? There are no data because nobody needs the data ..
Add on top of it some people only have 3 calls a day and they do not care too much.
**But in fact ALL the Iphones 4 are defective. ALL , Each and everyone*

For those who interested read the answer RIM and Nokia gave to Apple about the common antenna issue. Just one nice funny thing here . RIM :" Our phones people can use without the bumpers".

Just got back from the AT&T store (returning my iPhone 4.)

The lady who helped me asked me why I was returning the phone. I said the proximity sensor doesn't work properly. She never said anything in response. She processed my full refund in about 10 minutes and there was no restocking fee. I did mention to her that I called 611 and they told me that there is no restocking fee on iPhone 4s if they're returned within the 30 day window so I don't know if that's why I didn't have any problem getting it waived. Who knows. . .maybe it will show up on my final bill and I'll have to call AT&T and get them to remove it. We shall see.

So far, 48 hours in with Verizon and the Droid X and not a single dropped call after about two dozen calls. Also, I'm no longer hitting buttons with my cheek. I guess I can hold this phone the way I've held any other phone I've ever used. . .what a relief!

This is the real problem. It's not the antenna people. Jobs was right when he said the antenna was no big deal and it probably wouldn't be if not for the sensor compounding the so far undiscovered MAJOR problem.

You will see in the weeks to come. Just the tip of the iceberg. This just out yesterday...

Apple please fix this problem quickly if you can.

..and if not.. oh well.. best of luck then...

Dear iPhoneFanSince2G

How can they fix the problem ? How can anybody fix the inside problem over few days. Eventually Apple will make inside hardware changes and the phone will be good. But first they Must finish the selling compaing.
It is easier to convince everybody that phone is great and only few very sensitive people are not happy. Sensitive few are me and you and other couple maniacs .
If we do not like it just return it. How many times Jobs repeated it at the conference. He told us apple is trying but if it is not enough for us just return it. Apple has too many other happy customers.

Jul 17, 2010 12:54 PM in response to Michael Empire

Lol.

You are correct but quite a few are not happy. They just don't all call Applecare. They don't go to forums. A lot of regular people just go back to the store where they NOW say - "This will be fixed in an upcoming software update."

Also quite a few will get stuck like you said and then we will see if even 1 percent of unhappy customers will make a difference. I think they will. 30,000 of 3 million is a lot of people on the internet if they are not happy about a product and end up stuck with it.

In the older world that was not that much, but in the new world of blogs and internet that is way too much. All it takes is another Whoopi, or David Letterman incident. All it takes is one or two.

Apple can not afford new press like the link I posted earlier. Click on the link.

Problem is that people expect this from a regular brand. Apple is not a regular brand. There was already a big mistake yesterday by lowering to standards of Samsung and RIM.

I NEVER considered any of my iPhones to be on the quality level of either of those brands.

I like this post and THIS is what most regular people will think. They don't have time to be troubleshooting and all this nonsense. They buy a phone, they want it to work. ...just as good or BETTER than any other phone they have ever used.

Nobody is going to be trying to re-learn a special method of how to use a phone.

Dear iPhoneFanSince2G

Did you read RIM answer ? RIM :" Our phones people can use without Bumpers "..
Also apple does not know if in the next release they can or will fix it. Now It does not matter for them. They MUST sell as MANY phones as possible. Imagine they would now say we are working changing something inside ...?
30,000 People is not what they care and articles they do not care and anything else do not care . Stock price , sales , revenue , marker share it is now a priority . The other things will be taken care later. I looked your article ,of course .
My answer about the brand and all you mentioned is bellow

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL7yD-0pqZg&feature=player_embedded

I am sure you already know it.

So reason we have a problem with Proximity sensor we need " biigger GB "

You are totally correct! 1000%

I agree. I just know Apple will lose this type of strategy and we will be stuck with the other platform. It happened this same way before. I do not want that to happen.

I hope they learned!

What I am saying is that I TOTALLY agree with you only difference is Apple is like BMW or Mercedes and once they lose their confidence in quality the are no longer the brand and they go like Micro$oft...

I think they do not really know how big this problem is. They got blindsided by the antenna issue because they knew it was there but they had to release the phone to make sales for the last quarter. They will get blindsided again by this if they do not fix it.

They did not think people would make that big of a deal but the same hype and energy that goes into everybody standing on line and buying a product will work against you if there is a problem because of the way the blogs and internet work now. They blame the press but it is not the mainstream press. It only takes one or two blogs/youtube to become a snowball effect.

The "lost phone prototype" incident happened first 3 days into the same quarter. Who knows how many phone sales got reduced on account of that and what they had to make up for. It was released in the last 3 days of that same fiscal quarter. That was not by accident. That was to make numbers.

I don't know how, but they have to or somebody famous will come out again and say I don't know what is wrong I just know it's a dud and they do not want that. Twice will be too much.

FIx quickly Apple! I am just trying to help!

For those people who did not watch the conference regarding iphone4 issues.
The conference conducted by Apple . Before CEO Mr. Jobs wanted to discuss the situation he demonstrated the video. I think the rest of the conference is not that Important after the video was given to all of us as explanation and the solution. As to Me I did not and do not have any questions after this video in the begining of the conference.

Totally agreed. This is why I think Apple is in trouble. Arrogance is showing. The end of this video is not good and very telling of how the company thinks and it should not have been shown in the face or forum of this problem.

Believe me, this is what the thought was with the "don't hold it that way" comment but we see how that ended up.

Please wake up Apple! The internet is watching. Don't wake up too late because by then the tide will have turned! Don't throw it all away now. Consumers are not as dumb as you think.

Well, my 3rd iP4 is certainly behaving better than the first two. I had a couple of lengthy calls today and NO cheek dialing. (Knocking on wood). I checked the serial #, different factory and different production week. Still, that little "demo" by the Genius re: lighter colored glass has me wondering... I'll report back if it rears it's ugly head again. Bottom line: It's real. Steve mentioned it, showed a slide to accompany his (brief) mention so, I know Apple will do right by us. Annoying as **** problem though. Sheesh. I've been on this board since the July 4th weekend. I too believe many of the "AntennaGate" report may well be the PS issue as well.

Jul 17, 2010 1:59 PM in response to iFaceDial

This is a complete non-issue being blown way out of proportion by a few zellots who have a drum to bang and a chip on their shoulders. There is no evidence available that this sensor issue actually exists in the real world, no way of reproducing it on any given handset, and the only evidence anyone is able to point to is the fact that the iPhone 4 senses proximity differently to the iPhone 3G when placed side by side under a tray.

I was thinking about swapping my black iPhone for a white one, but if any of you guys are to be believed, I have the only bug free iPhone on the planet. So maybe a white iPhone is not such a good idea.

Or maybe the only people who have the sensor issue are the 500 or so that are discussing the issue on all the forums worldwide.

Who really cares if their phone lights up their ear during a call? Can you really get it to hang up, or mute, or dial your mom?
