I guess im really only concerned with intruders on the outside than here on the inside. Is it possible to create a long secure password but be able to mouse over and see the little keychain icon as can be done with other internal applications? Thank you for your help and potentially saving me time everyday!

No. In order to access Keychain, you need to be logged into your account. You can't use Keychain to, essentially, log into Keychain.
