I often take partial screenshots on my MacBook Pro using ctrl-option-shift-4. I miss this feature on my iPad Pro. It is so much faster than trying to set up the exact image I want on my iPad. Is this not possible to do? Don’t others want this, too?

If you have a hardware keyboard attached to your iPad you also can perform the ⌘ (Command) + ⌥ (Option) + ⇧ (Shift) + 4 to take a screen shot and immediately open it in the screenshot markup screen where you can crop the screenshot. From there you can save it to your iPad or share it in another application.
It's certainly nothing I've felt the need for, but if you do want this, feel free to make a feature request to Apple via this link:
Apple won't respond to you, but they will at least read it. I don't recall seeing posts from other people asking for this functionality however.
This is what I do as well.
Or zoom into an image/Web page/document first, then take the screenshot.
I go even farther and I have touch accomdations setup on the virtual Home button to more easily do things, like screenshots.
The virtual Home button in the Touch Accomodations setting saves the wear and tear on my physical Home button on my iPads.
I understand. But it's what we've really got on iOS devices. I don't take a lot of screenshots, tbh. So quickly cropping a screenshot takes not that much effort.
I’ve been playing with the markup screen and really like it! I will use this.
Thank you all for your help. I have been a heavy Mac OS C user using key commands and just discovered the iPad Pro. I love it, but there is a learning curve.
You are very welcome! I love the markup tools. It’s so nice to be able to crop or add information to screenshots. Apple has announced for this Fall with iPadOS 13 that screenshots can be saved directly into the Files app as so it won’t clutter up your Photos library.
* As a revision to my statement, the shortcut is ⌘ + ⇧ + 4 not ⌘ + ⌥ + ⇧ + 4.
This is something I use on a daily basis. It is quite handy.
I did not know how nice it was to use until I tried it. I think many are put off using this the first time because it uses several keys.
Your method is nice, but it seems to take a few more steps than the “chord” method using three keys.
If I ever want to make a change or crop a screenshot, I just edit it simply using the edit feature in the photo app. It doesn't take much time or effort, tbh.
