I have a macbook, iphone and iCloud 2tb plan. I would like to have the photos from my macbook and iphone also stored in icloud, but i dont want my macbook photos on my iphone and i dont want my iphone photos on my macbook. Is there a way to configure icloud to do this?

Not if you are using the same Apple ID for iCloud on both devices (and I'm not recommending that you use multiple Apple IDs).
Thanks for the reply. 2 apple IDs is my next step. I had planned to use one ID on my iphone and the other on my macbook to create the separation, but link them with family sharing to share itunes and app store purchases. Any potential pitfalls with this setup that im not thinking through?
The ones I can think of are all of the other iCloud syncing that you would lose (if you use them) -- e.g., Notes, Contacts, Reminders, Safari, Keychain, iCloud Drive, etc.
