Slow motion video - irregular speed.

Iphone 8, iOS 12.4.

When recording a slow motion video (120 or 240 fps), first and last ~2 seconds are recorded at normal speed, while remaining video is indeed slow motion.

Is it intentional? If so, must be the stupidest design ever, as the slow motion recording is useless. But it is also difficult to imagine a bug like this.

There is a similar (unanswered) question from 2015 with 140 votes, so obviously this issue is not new.

Hello ron App,

Thanks for checking the articles. You will need to edit the slo-mo action time on your iOS device before exporting it.

After you record the slo-mo video, tap on the video in the bottom left of the screen, and tap edit. You will see the slider above the video timeline, and there you can adjust the start and stop times for the slo-mo action. Once you have it as you like with the start and stop times, then you can export the video to your other devices.

Depending on your model of iPhone, the iPhone manual has more options listed in Settings > Camera > Record Slo-mo: Take videos with your iPhone camera - Apple Support

"Record a slow-motion video

  1. Choose Slo-mo mode.
  2. Tap the Record button or press either volume button to start and stop recording.
  3. To snap a still photo while recording, press the white Shutter button.
  4. To set a portion of the video to play in slow motion and the rest at regular speed, tap the video thumbnail, then tap Edit. Slide the vertical bars below the frame viewer to define the section you want to play back in slow motion.

Depending on your model, you can change the frame rate and resolution. The faster the frame rate and the higher the resolution, the larger the resulting video file.

To change Slo-mo recording settings, go to Settings > Camera > Record Slo-mo."

Thanks and have a wonderful day.

Hello ron App,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about slo-mo recording on your iPhone. This is normal, but you can edit the start and stop time for this using the edit menu.

This article mentions the edit option: Use camera modes on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

"Slo-mo

Make your favorite moments last longer with slow-motion videos. Your video records as normal. But when you play it back, you see the slo-mo effect. You can even edit your video so that the slo-mo action starts and stops at a time you choose."

Just for your info, please check this article about importing your videos: What to expect when you import slow-motion video from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or PC - Apple Support

Thanks and have a wonderful day.
