Switching to android iMessage help

Hi, I recently switched phone providers and phones. Switched from Telus while using an iPhone to Rogers using an android. I cleared the iPhone and then transferred my number to the Rogers SIM and put it into the android. Now people who were using iMessage can't message.me because my number is registered with iMessage. I used my sim card and put it in the iPhone and disabled the iMessage and FaceTime and I entered my number in the apple database to deactivate my number and it said it wasn't a number with iPhones which it isn't anymore since I have the android and with Rogers. I'm still not getting messages....what should my next step be?

I'm guessing you may have used this site for assistance? Deregister and Turn Off iMessage - Apple Support
