Question about Radeon GPUs

I've spent a fair amount of time and money lately on possible replacements for my Mac Pro's Radeon RX5770 graphics card, which will not run in Mojave, and that probably goes for any future OSs. I've found GPUs listed on Apple's "supported" list, and I've found some not listed there that will run Mojave, either mostly or totally, depending on their age (Pre- versus post-2014). One question I have about the "supported" list is: If Apple includes Radeon drivers in their OS, why are some of the Radeon cards on the list specified as "Mac Edition" or "For Mac"? Wouldn't they work in any case?

Mac Edition or For Mac cards allow the Mac to show the boot screen on Start Up and the Start Up Manager when the option/alt key is held down during Start Up or Restart. Non Mac Edition or For Mac, basically just PC cards can be used in the Mac but you will not see the boot screens or be able to access the Start Up Manager so will boot straight to the login screen.

Some people will run a PC graphics card as they are often cheaper but keep a Mac Edition card handy should they encounter problems and need the Start Up Manager.
