MacBook Air A1932 will not startup

My A1932 MacBook Air will not start up. Tried holding the power button 10 sec. and then pressing it again, but nothing. It does chime when the usb-c power cord is plugged in, but nothing else. Machine has been idle for 3 months, but plugged in 12hrs.

Hi ghs57,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand that you're having trouble getting your MacBook Air to start up. I also see that the Mac shows signs of power since you can hear the startup chime, and you've tried holding the power button for 10 seconds, but nothing changes with the behavior. I know it's important for your Mac to start up properly; I'd like to help. Based on the steps you've taken so far, I'd recommend using the steps and guidance below:

"

    • Unplug all accessories from your Mac, including printers, drives, USB hubs, and mobile devices. (You could have an issue with one or more of those devices or their cables.) Once more, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, then press it again.
    • Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).

Check for other startup issues

    • If your Mac turns on but doesn't finish starting up, you might be able take steps based on the screen you see on your display.
    • If you recently installed memory or a hard disk (or SSD), make sure that it's compatible and installed correctly. If possible, remove it and test with the original memory or disk.

If your Mac still doesn't turn on or start up

If you still need help, contact Apple Support, an Apple Store, or an Apple Authorized Service Provider."

I had the Apple tech at my local Best Buy take a look at it, and he was not able to have it start up either. After checking several things, he suspected a hardware issue. I was referred to the nearest Apple store (about an hour way). The device was ordered directly from Apple online earlier this year, and is under warranty. So, while not resolved, we do have a next step in our repair plan.
