FaceTime icon greyed out

when I am in iMessage the FaceTime icon is not showing up it ian greyed out and won’t let me FaceTime unless I go into the app why is Thisbe my iPhone ian up to date I have somebody everything any body else wit Thisbe issue please help as it is getting very annoying and frustrating
