Migration Assistant doesn't see my old MacBook Air which is using Mojave 10.14.6

I just bought a new MacBook and am trying to migrate using migration assistant. When I get to the screen for selecting where I want to migrate from, the wheels just spin. I have both laptops on the same network but the new one can't seem to find the old one.
