Best Buy vs. iPhones from Cricket

Does anyone know why Best Buy refuses to service an iPhone from Cricket? The rep on Apple Chat didn’t seem to know.

Doesn't make much sense. A display is a universal part and there should be no reason why they can’t do it. But it’s Best Buy. I have no issue buying something at one, but I wouldn’t let anyone there work on my iPhone. I would go to an Apple Store, but I’ve got about a dozen with 15 miles of where I live, and a ton more on my commute route.

What are you asking from them? If it's something simple like a battery service, it shouldn't matter. I don't know if there are any restrictions on them obtaining full replacements for any US version of the iPhone.

I do not have a refurbished iPhone. It was brand new when I purchased it, everything was still wrapped in its protective covering. I was able to find a last minute appointment at the main Apple store, and the rep at the Genius Bar was able to fix it with no issues.

I would have gone straight to the Genius Bar, but only BB had an opening in the time frame I needed.

I have already submitted an official complaint through Apple and through Best Buy. An unnecessary hour commute(30 min to BB, then 30 min to the Genius Bar) and getting stuck in construction traffic on the way to the Genius Bar wasn’t exactly my idea of fun yesterday.

I guess Best Buy does not have a way to check if iPhones are refurbished or official, so they’ll just assume it’s refurbished if it’s from Cricket. I’ll keep that in mind next time.

They’re supposed to be able to run all the diagnostics that would show if there’s are certain aftermarket parts installed. Then they should be able to spot anything that looks like it shouldn’t belong. If they simply refuse, thats no right. Cricket sells more new iPhones than they do refurbs.

If you bought a refurbished iPhone from Cricket neither Best Buy nor Apple will work on it.
