I would like the most recent album to appear at the top in Photos. How can I sorts as such?

For albums "Sort by Date" is sorting by the date of the photos in the albums, not by the date of the album creation.

This is working as expected, if the dates of the photos in the albums are corresponding to the name of the the album year-month-day. For me it is working well. What you want is a "Sort by Name" of the albums, that is interpreting the names as dates. You can sort the albums by the names, with "Sort by name"; but only ascending. There is no descending sort option for the album names. So the newest albums will be at the bottom, if you sort by name.

I am simply enclosing the albums into folders, one folder for each year. And folders for groups of ten years for the yearly folders. It is easy to keep the nested folders of albums sorted manually, because we can collapse large groups of albums by closing the folder. For example:

Hmmmm. Yes, I see what you are saying.

You should be able to manually rearrange the order by dragging the album titles.

Another thing you can try: Sorting by name will sort the albums in alphabetical order. You could try adding a sequential letter to each title (a, b, c, d, etc) so when you sort by name the albums would display in that alphabetical sequence no matter what date they were created.
