iPad stolen from front porch after delivery from fedex

My iPad was stolen off my front porch today after it was delivered. I called Apple and they are sending out a replacement but I was curious if there is anyway it can be tracked so I can find whoever stole it or who they may sell it to? A couple of finds have said that they will be able to turn it on and use it as long as they don’t turn on find my iPhone. Is there a way the iPad can be bricked by Apple so the thief can’t use it or sell it? I’ve never had this happen to me before so just trying to see what all options for vindication may be available? Any help is appreciated

I contacted the police because it thought it may be useful they told me they would send an officer to make a report but no one ever showed up (I’m assuming a stolen package isn’t very high on the priority list) and do have a security camera but they must’ve stayed just outside of the motion sensor boxes to activate the camera ( new security system was installed by adt a week ago and I’m still trying to figure out the whole thing). That’s why I was wondering since I called Apple if they would just Brock it so it would be worthless to the thief or anyway possible I could try to find it like if it was tied to my Apple ID when I ordered it and I could do something that way..... just reaching for straws and figured I’d get the best possible answers from the community here

Hello,

Theoretically if the thieves are dumb enough to set the device up and enable Find My iPad (which it is enabled by default) then Apple may be able to track them. I do not know for certain. I would think that Apple would at least be able to see what Apple ID registers the iPad when it’s set up. It grinds my gears whenever I hear about situations like this. You spend your hard earned money on a shiny new iPad only for the experience to be ruined by some thoughtless individual taking what isn’t theirs. I am happy to hear that Apple will replace the device.

I want to thank everyone for the help and replies, my replacement shipment was sent out today and upon looking at the tracking info in my email, this is also a no signature required shipment. So even after the first instance of me reporting to Apple I had the original delivery stolen they are still sending the replacement with no signature required. Looks like I’ll have to blow a vacation day just so I can sit at the house and wait on fedex so I can make sure I get this one.

It will not be tied to your Apple ID. So you won't ever be able to track it. Apple doesn't block devices. If it comes online and the police are working with Apple, they may be able to provide it's location to the authorities, but Apple typically doesn't get involved in lost or stolen equipment. The whole thing just sucks, but it will most likely be written off and forgotten, sadly.

Some drivers do ignore the signature required. UPS never does. I follow all my shipments with the tracking number so I know when it’s “out for delivery”. With Apple I also agree to text notifications stating it’s coming, I’ll be home and keep going to my front door to see if it’s there. I get very nervous around Xmas time because there’s people (thieves) who will drive around following delivery trucks to grab a parcel as soon as it’s dropped off.

Every iPhone, iPad or iPod I’ve ever ordered from Apple was shipped signature required. But there is an online waiver form you can sign and leave for the delivery driver giving them authorization to leave it without a signature.

People with FedEx accounts can also authorize release from within their account settings.

And it’s not unheard of for delivery drivers to just ignore the signature required bit either.
