Password doesn't work, do not know Recovery Key

I give my old MacBook Air to my husband, and deleted the device from my Apple ID like what I did with my old iPhones. My husband uses the same password. But couple months later, we can't log in the computer with the same password anymore. We tried to reset it, it requires a recovery key, but I do not have one... What should I do?
