Open water swimming

I have very often wrong distance calculations in open water swimming. Am I the only one? Can I somehow improve this in the watch settings?

It won’t. You need to post your feedback to Apple direct.

  • Your Apple Watch estimates your measurements during workouts based on the information that you entered during setup. Here's how each workout is measured:
    • Pool Swim: When you start a workout, be sure to accurately set the pool length to help your Apple Watch measure laps and distance. GPS isn't used during a Pool Swim, and water might prevent a heart-rate measurement, but calories, laps, and distance will still be tracked using the built-in accelerometer.
    • Open Water Swim: GPS will only provide distance when you do a freestyle stroke. Water might prevent a heart-rate measurement, but calories will still be tracked using the built-in accelerometer.

I understand that it uses gps, as it should, but sometimes the distance is even doubled. Don’t see how strokes should impact this calculation. If the software could use some kind of interpolation (I’ve tried distance calculator on gmaps and that would be satisfying) it would be much better but as it is it’s a complete disaster. Instead of 3km swim it records 3.6 up to 6-7 km depending I don’t know what...

I see this as a bug or not fully developed software. I hope this message will somehow go to the developers...
