I've also recently started having this same issue. The top speaker slowly started going out until all I could hear was loud static anytime I received a call, and then it went completely silent. Within the last 48 hours the microphone started going out. Nobody can hear me when I answer the phone and the phone won't record anything. Today I noticed that if I do answer the phone I don't have the option to put the phone on speaker or listen on the handset -- the only way I can talk to people is through a bluetooth-connected headset.
When I consulted a friend through my local service provider, she informed me the audio chip was fried because of the update. Upon further investigation, it looks like something called "loop disease" and can also result in the phone going into a "reboot loop" if you decide to restart your phone. It looks like something Apple has been made aware of but I have yet to see a formal statement from Apple concerning this issue. I'm still in the process of determining what is going to the best course of action, so please let me know if you find a resolution.

Hello,
Hmm, I'm not aware of any "ic audio chip" issues.
See this:
If you can‘t hear a person on a call or voicemail or if the sound isn‘t clear on your iPhone
If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker
Get help with the microphones on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Good luck.
