When I am using my iPad to text people through sms it sends a read receipt but on my iPhone XS Max, it does not. I do not have my read receipts on for either device. Help. It confuses me why I keep seeing read.

You see “Read” because the person you are communicating with allows you to see Read Receipts.
Your “Send Read Receipts” setting determines whether the other person can see when you read their message. It has nothing to do with what read receipts you see.
Read receipts only work for iMessages, not SMS text messages.
So perhaps your iPhone has Settings > Messages > iMessage =“Off”.
Okay? So why can i see it on my ipad but not my phone?
