Transferring ring tones from old to new iPhones

I have a ring tone created by a 3rd-party app that I'd like to move to my new iPhone XR. Syncing doesn't do the trick, and restoring purchased tones doesn't either, because it was not purchased from the iTunes Store.

I can see and select the file by connecting my old phone to iTunes, but that's all I can do. I can't drag and drop it anywhere, or even copy it to the clipboard.

How do I add this tone file to my iPhone XR?

Hey Impish,

I see that you're looking to sync a tone that you created to the iPhone XR. I'll be happy to help out.

Here's the steps you'll want to follow to sync the tone to your device: Use tones and ringtones with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. Take a look at the steps under "Move custom ringtones from iTunes to your iOS device". When you drag and drop your tone file, be sure you're dropping it to the name of your iOS device in the left sidebar of iTunes. You mentioned you can't copy the tone to the clipboard, but is the issue with pasting? You could also using a keyboard shortcut to paste it. If you're on a Mac, here are the shortcut commands: Mac keyboard shortcuts - Apple Support.

If you're still unable to sync the tone to iTunes, let us know if you're on a Windows computer or Mac.

Cheers.
