Screen frozen on start up

Screen on my old imac freezes upon start up.

Try resetting the NVRAM per How to reset NVRAM on your Mac if that does not work, please restart in Safe Mode per Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support. Note a Safe Mode start may take up to 10 minutes. If neither work, please make an appointment at your local Apple Store or independent Apple Authorized Service Provider.

Shutdown holding the power button.
Disconnect that external drive that is hanging out there, plus any others.
Push the power button and see if it will startup normally.

If not, follow the instructions that rk87 posted with your external drive(s) still disconnected.

Tried safe mode. Now imac keeps turning off and back on continuously

i believe the cause of this was when i attemted to download google earth,it filled screen and I couldn’t get it off the screen ( filled screen). Only way was to pull the plug

now this problem immediately after.
