Error Codes when running Apple Diagnostics.

I have a 27” iMac 12.2 that I was able to run Apple Diagnostics before it seems to have died. . .  The errors where “4MEM/9/40000000.0X8abo2218” and “4MEM/9/4000000.0x8aba98”.

I have 32 MB RAM, from OWC as well as a 2TB SSD.

I have been told these errors might be memory related which is the best. I have replaced the video card and SSD on this unit.

I was able to run Apple Diagnostics three more times and got the following errors; 4MOT/4/40000002.HDD-0, 4MOT/4/40000002.HDD-143, & 4MEM/9/4000000.0x88932698. Just to add to my confusion. The unit and I are in Rayong Thailand, can anyone help with these codes?

iMac12,2 is iMac 27” mid 2011.

Those are the (undocumented) error codes from the Apple Hardware Tests, and not from the newer Apple Diagnostics.

Apple does not appear to have documentation for the older hardware test codes, but there are lists of test codes around, and discussions of memory errors.

Seeing RAM and fan codes points to multiple failures or to a low-level problem with the Mac. Usual recommendations with memory errors are to re-seat, to reduce and to swap around, and to replace. To play “mastermind” with the DIMMs, effectively.

Unlike what you’re necessarily using here for tests, the codes from newer tools are documented: Apple Diagnostics: Reference codes.

Mr. Hoffman-

Thanks for the direction, the second set of codes were done swapping around and resetting the Ram. So based on what I have read in the reference material you directed me too. Besides the one RAM issue I only seem to have a HHD (SSD in my case) fan motors sensor issues, I don't think OWC had the "Digital Thermal Sensor HDD Upgrade Cable" they have now. With this information I will open her up and poke around to see what I can find. Thanks so much for your guidance. I will check the RAM sockets, I have been running without the RAM cover due to stripped screws. I don't want to spend too much on this iMac as it is no longer supported by Apple, "El Cap" is as current as I can go, no "Mojave" for me on this. Thanks again, you have been very helpful, I will come back if we solve the issue.

This is very true, but at least it is not mSoft. . . . Now if I could just my wife's Apple ID sorted out before she discards her "Bricks", iPhone and iPad with an Apple ID she doesn't rememberer the passcode for, or the phone that is her trusted number many moons and countries ago. Thanks for all your help.

I remover and reseated the RAM so I only get the sensor error. . . I opened it up and well it is in the bedroom that is "sealed" for the air-conditioning with three dogs. T say it was a bit dusty would be a true statement again thanks for all the help.
