Disk Utility - Error 5000

When I tried to create new encrypted image on my new MBPro 10.14.6, I got an error: The operation failed. Access is denied. Completion Status: -5000

Help me to solve this problem plz.


Format: APFS case-sensitive

Encryption: 128 AES

Partitions: Single Partition - GUID Partition Scheme

Image format: disk image for reading and writing.

The problem was solved when I chose the installation path - the desktop. I think that I was choosing the wrong path for the image file.

That looks like you are trying to encrypt an external USB stick, I don't think you can do that.

can you not show a proper screenshot with the full Disk Utility panel shown.

to take a screenshot press Shoot-Command-4 all at the same time, you will see a crosshair pop up,

position and drag it over the whole Disk Utility window, then release, it should be saved to your Desktop.

Oh and a translation of the text in the screenshot would be helpful.

Try it to delete Macintosh HD.

Did you lock your disk with a password?

If so, try to contact your local Genius Bar and they can help you out.
