Mac system storage takes up 340GB

I've been trying to clear up space on my MacBook Pro (2012), and when I went into the storage tab in "About This Mac" it showed that 340,98GB of my 500GB SSD is taken up by "System". How do I decrease this? It's a bit ridiculous for the system files to take up that much space.

How Can I Clear My System Storage? Right now my system storage is taking up about 42GB and i only have 76GB on my mac to begin with. Ive tried all the tricks i can find to clean it up including DaisyDisk, clicking Go > Option> Library, clearing cache and log files, terminal backups and nothing seems to be working. What else can i do?
