Photos - Filter Shared Album by Contributor

I want to export photos from a shared album posted by other contributors (to exclude exporting those posted by me or my wife)

We set up a shared album on a group vacation, thinking we could then export/download the photos from others on the trip - problem, it seems there is no way to filter/select photos by contributor. Is there really no way to identify who posted what photos in the shared album? And then filter/select on that?

The reason I need this is for photo workflow that enables me to aggregate photos from all sources, including digital SLR/cameras, which I happen to do into Adobe Lightroom:

  • Take photos on various cameras and phones
    • My and my wife's iphone photos would be exported from our own camera rolls (by going through photos on a mac)
    • Then my desire was that other peoples photos would be exported from the shared album on the mac (presuming I could filter out the ones I contributed myself so they don't get duplicated in the process - but I can't find a way to do that).
    • Copy other photos/videos from camera SD cards to same export location (aggregate all photos)
  • Import photos aggregated from all sources to Adobe Lightroom
  • Do photo development/album management in Lightroom
  • Export from Lightroom to any album platforms I want

It seems very challenging to put together a photo management workflow that allows for picture taking on iphones, then using those photos somewhere else outside of apple (i.e. Lightroom). I've been jumping through hoops getting past various technical challenges. This is the latest.

Thanks in advance for helpful tips/comments.

You can see who shared a photo in the Activity album. There you will see messages like "Mickey Mouse shared a photo", "Minnie Mouse commented on a photo", etc.

But there is no way to filter or sort the shared albums. The shared albums are not really a part of the Photos Library, even if they are shown in the library. And they are just streams of photos, not really albums. Apple should really have avoided to rename the shared photo streams to "Shared albums". Now peopler expecting the shared albums to behave like albums.

To get your shared photos sorted by the contributors:

  • You can import all photos from the shared album to your Photos Library by dragging them into a standard album.
  • Once the photos are in a standard album, you can you can try to create smart albums to split them into groups. Most metadata will have been be stripped from the photos, but the camera EXIF tag should still be there. So you can try to filter them with smart albums based on the camera make or model. File > New Smart album. Add a rule "Camera Model is ..."
