iTunes no longer recognizes that my iPhone 7+ is connected to my computer when I plug it in.

When I plug in my iPhone 7+ to my computer I get a message that iTunes recognizes that "something" has been plugged in, but doesn't recognize it as an iPhone. I've tried the help steps for backing up, tried turning the phone off and on, tried using a different cable and a different USB port. I "think" it may have something to do with the Windows Device Manager, but my level of computer expertise does not extend any further than that.
