Finder consuming 100% of CPU and crashing

When navigating through image files (outside of the Photos app), Finder is consuming 100% of my mini’s CPU time and crashing. No other files or folders are open.

Any ideas on how to prevent this from occurring? Thanks.

Finder getting slower My Finder is "getting tired" after 4-6 minutes of extensive use. I mean it takes a second or two to open a small image in Quick View, the waiting circle appears. The rest of the apps are working well at all times. When I relaunch or force exit Finder, it gets normal again, but only for another 5 mins of extensive use. finder sluggish What are possible reasons for a sluggish or frozen finder? The problem started after I was cleaning out files from the downloads directory and an external hard disk.

System settings / General / Storage shows Photos and System Data When I open System settings / General / Storage it completes all tasks very quickly apart from Photos and System Data. They have the 'rotating icon thing' going for hours. There are no Photos in that App. Anyone know why this is happening and how to 'fix' it? Thanks

Please determine if the same problems occur in "Safe Mode": Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac.
