My iPhone no longer syncs with Yahoo mail

My iPhone has stopped accepting updates and changes to my Yahoo mail address book. Until recently whenever I entered a new address in my Yahoo mail account my iphone contacts would also show it. Unfortunately, it no longer does this. I have reviewed the settings on my iPhone by doing the following.


I opened the settings on my iPhone screen. I then scrolled to Password and Accounts. I tapped Yahoo mail. The contact slider is in the green position for mail, contacts, calendars, reminders and notes. The syncing appears to function for calendar entries which I enter in Yahoo mail, but for new addresses it does not. What more can i do, to get the syncing to work between the two. I wish to avoid having to enter all new contacts twice.

I see that contacts you're adding in your new Yahoo address book aren't syncing to your iPhone. The Contacts option is turned on for the account, but they don't appear in the Contacts application. I'm glad to help.


Use Contacts from the Phone app on iPhone -- Open the Contacts application, then tap "Groups" on the upper-left corner of the screen. See if your Yahoo mail account is one of the choices.


Manage and delete contacts on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- Make sure that your Yahoo account is the default account to add new contacts by going to Settings > Contacts > Default Account.


If the issue persists, please reply with the answers to the following questions:

  • Was your Yahoo account listed under Groups in the Contacts application?
  • If you add a contact to the Contacts application on your iPhone, does the contact appear in your Yahoo Address book?
  • If you’re using the Mail application on your iPhone, do you emails sync correctly?

Thanks for getting back to us with that information, DJM3090. It's appreciated. Since we've isolated the problem specifically from Yahoo to your iPhone, I'd like for you to delete the Yahoo account and add it back again.


Add an email account to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- If you're not using your Yahoo email account as the primary address of your Apple ID, delete the Yahoo account from your iPhone, then Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch -- restart your iPhone. Once it's returned to the Home screen, set up your Yahoo email account and test.


Let me know how that worked at your convenience.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. In respect of the individual steps you have mentioned, please note the following:

  • My Yahoo account is listed under Groups on my iPhone inc the Contacts application;
  • My Yahoo account is the default account in the new contacts on my iPhone.
  • I have just tried adding a new contact to my iPhone contacts and the new contact did NOT appear in my Yahoo Address book.
  • I am using the Mail application on my iPhone and the emails do sync correctly. By this I mean, I do receive my emails on my iPhone.

Please note, until about a week ago, new contacts which I added to my Yahoo mail account did appear in my iPhone account. It is a mystery to me as to why the addresses stopped syncing. I believe the calendar function is still syncing.
