How do I do it

When you just like to transfer your contacts, tapp on your name/Apple-ID on top of settings, than iCloud and synchronize your contacts (contacts slider green). With your new phone do the same; it will pull down the contacts from iCloud.
good luck

No, just activate iCloud and there synchronize contacts. Do it for your old and new iPhone.
Other option is using iBackupContacts, export, import via f.ex. mail, unpack.
But that‘s not necessary, the way via iCloud works. I synchronize my contacts this way between iPhone and iPad.
Good luck
