Thunderbolt version

I have a 2017 MacBookPro14,3 with the TouchBar. The System Report shows 'Thunderbolt' Bus 0 & Bus 1 and USB 3.1

I need to know what specific version of Thunderbolt I have. Any help by those who know is appreciated.

Regards,

Dan

It'd kind of difficult to understand at first, but Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C share the same port/connector type. There are some devices that are USB-C only without Thunderbolt 3.

The Thunderbolt 3 ports that you have support Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C devices, although to use Thunderbolt 3 devices you will need a Thunderbolt 3 specific cable (which will also support USB-C connections). Confused yet?

If you connect a USB-C device it will show up in the USB3.1 description.

Hello Digital Dude,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with your MacBook Pro.

Here are the specifications for the 15" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar: MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017) - Technical Specifications - Apple Support

It states your device has four Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports:

"Charging and Expansion

Four Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports with support for:

  • Charging
  • DisplayPort
  • Thunderbolt (up to 40 Gbps)
  • USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10 Gbps)"

Thanks and have a wonderful day.
