I'm afraid I don't have much more to offer than what Apple already provided in those Support documents. Here's another one that may help: Apple Support article: Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch.

Handoff and Continuity can be inscrutable—those features either work or they don't, and the protocols they use are opaque. As long as all your devices meet the many hardware / software requirements (and yours appear to), yet still aren't functioning the way you expect, then the only thing I have left to suggest is to Contact Support and see if they can offer some more productive guidance.

Things to check.

  1. Both devices need to have Bluetooth turned on
  2. Both devices need to be signed in to the same iCloud account
  3. Both devices need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network (which of course means Wi-Fi also must be turned on)
  4. Both devices need to support Handoff/Continuity (which if it used to work one can conclude is the case)

Therefore check 1 to 3 above.

Continuity will not work with my iMac anymore.

Handoff still does not work as should. iMac, iPhone, iPad have everything turned on. iPad will paste 'message' to iMac; iMac to iPad is a 'file' (not text) which will not open; neither work with iPhone or vice-versa.

I may be missing something but for life of me, cannot make connection as to what.

There was a quick blurb about updates and something would not work anymore…I don't remember what.

My iMac is (late 2012) macOS Mojave 10.14.6; iPad Air 2 (2015) iOS 12.4; iPhone (2016) iOS 12.4.

I have checked and double-checked 1 thru 3 above to no avail…all are on.

My iMac is 6 mos. too old for Continuity. However, does do handoff with iPad, up to a point. The little icons show up for some apps but not many.

I have to use Universal Clipboard to paste to iPad 'messages' but it comes up as a file, which does not open. I can paste from iPad to iMac and it will be text.

iPhone doesn't seem to work at all. Perplexing.
