External DVD drive not mounting or working

To date, my new iMac 2019 4k Retina Display is updated to Mojave 10.14.6. I have read the thread on this issue and performed many of the suggestions. My external DVD drive is still not working consistently without having to restart the computer with the drive turned on and a disk inside. Has anyone heard if Apple is ever going to address this issue? It doesn't seem like it is good for the computer to have to restart all of the time just to get it to recognize an external drive?

Make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar for service. If you need to find an Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple. Also, see How to find your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) or Distributor (AAD).
