Downgrade iPad Mini 2

I’ve had an iPad Mini 2 since it was released and always loved it! Always updated it when Apple released new updates and have it on the last one available currently. But the iPad had become so slow that I don’t use it at all anymore. I thought this was just outdated technology and didn’t question it, until I saw the exactly same model of iPad on a friends house running the original iOS version it came with out of the box and that one was still silky smooth.

I get that Apple does this to make people buy newer devices, but can we please have an option to keep our old devices usable and downgrade them?

This seems like the throttle down fiasco all over again (and yes, I know I’m late to this party).

we aren’t even getting the newest updates on this model anymore, so why not let us downgrade to whichever version we prefer?

We bought the devices, we should be able to choose which version we want them to run at our own risk.

Thanks

You are not addressing Apple here.

You signed up into a largely Apple supported user to user technical support community.

We are all just Apple product users just like you!

Apple has NEVER supported NOR has had any provisions to be able to downgrade to an earlier iOS.

Even if this was made possible by Apple, remember, at this late date, many third party apps may no longer work and/or older versions of apps may no longer be available to use with an older version iOS.

App developers have moved on to 64-bit hardware supported apps and that means iOS 11 and newer iOS versions, now.

Why is your iPad Mini 2 slow and what have you done to improve the performance of your iPad Mini 2?

Like I stated,

Doing THAT, you will only hurt yourself in the end, by taking advantage of a downgraded iOS, as your choice of apps from the app store will be severely curtailed, by then, and you will, eventually, having to go back to whatever the max iOS is for your iPad.

You are soooo keen/concerned on the whole downgrading your iPad's iOS thing, have you even bothered to look into other reasons why your iPad Mini is soooo slow?

Probably not.

How much free, internal data space is left on your iPad Mini?

How many potential background running apps do you leave hanging all tne time in the iOS background app switcher?

You coukd try tapping on my tips below ( I use these tips ON ALL of my iDevices ) to see if this improves the overall performance of your iPad Mini 2.

Slow iPad on iOS 9, 10 or 11! - Apple Community

Try all of these tips and leave each tip active together.

Do not simply try every single tip individually, expecting just one tip to be a performance “cure all”.

Many of these tips are designed to work together to help improve overall iOS/iDevice performance.

Good Luck!

Apple is not here to answer your questions, we are all other end users here.

No iOS device has ever been able to go back once updated. And, in electronics, technology advances so quickly that an older device simply is not designed to run the newest system.

And, yes, you have a choice: don't update; however, that is not the best idea as you will not get security updates.

Thanks for the reply guys!

I thought there were some Apple official moderators of some sort around here, my bad!

I've tried pretty much all I can on my iPad, reset, restore, clean setup without backup, latest update, etc.

Currently I only have the stock Apple apps in it plus Netflix and Youtube and it's so slow I basically only use it in emergencies, aka when my battery dies on all other devices and I need to check something fast.

When I was looking into this I saw a couple articles about Apple allowing people to downgrade software if their device didn't support the latest version available, hence my question. ("Apple only makes older versions available for hardware that doesn't support the newest version. ") Guess I misinterpreted this?

Perhaps I'll be able to catch another accident like last year with all previous versions signed...
