Hi - I want to trim movie AFTER the playhead but the command "Option /" trims everything
from beginning up TO the playhead. Selecting the potential material and Command X is my
natural reaction but it doesn't work. How do I trim off the material I want? Thanks, Tom

Hi, Tom,
Put your cursor on the right hand edge of the clip and, while pressing down, drag the edge to the left. It helps to first expand your time line by moving the slider located next to the Settings button above and to the right of the time line.

The only way I could trim was by dragging the R end of the clip back to the point
I wanted to end.
Now putting in a Transition but see no way to set the length of it (Fade to black).
Trying to find a way to fade out audio . . . .

Fading audio is easy. Put your cursor on the edge of the audio clip to reveal a little blue fade handle. Drag the handle to fade the clip.

Rich - just to summarize - after adjusting slider to expand the view, drag L from beginning of the material to be deleted
then use the command Option / ?
I assume the thing I'm working on is in Project View and leaves the original item in Photos alone.

There will be a fade handle at the other end of the clip for fade ins.

Yes, you have it right. Dragging automatically trims the clip. No need for any other command. You are working in the time line of a project.
The original item remains fully intact in Photos as well as in iMovie. Trimming only eliminates a portion of a video clip from view, it does not modify the original. So, if you drag left and decide that you trimmed too much, you can drag right to restore any portion of what you trimmed. Nothing that you do in the project time line affects the original media. The project timeline only displays thumbnails for editing purposes, not the originals.
