Using Duet on my Macbook Pro and iPad Pro. Need a splitter on the lightning cable to allow charge and data comm. are there limitations that arise with using one splitter over another?

You will be better off contacting the developers of tbe Duet app and ask them what tbe best configuration is with an iPad Pro.
