applications update

I can't update applications on my MacBook Pro. The information on my screen when I enter Appstore and try to update them says: "To update these apps, you need to accept them on the Account page in the App Store". Could you tell me what exactly I should do?

Mac App Store, and you are signed in with your Apple ID. View menu : View my Account, and then accept the applications that are shown under your "Purchases."

This solution is vague. Firstly it creates the impression that one should look in the App Store menu bar, which has no View option. It should read Open App. View Information in App Screen and log in. When I did so, a blank screen comes up with a spinning wheel. The screen exits. The app update fails yet again, and I cannot update my Apple Apps. Please advise.
