iPad 5th generation (2017) swollen battery

I purchased an iPad 9.7 In December 2017 it is the 5th generation.

The iPas was on the shelf in a bedroom where there is no sun ever, in the loft higher than the only small window located more than 10 feet away, room is cool with A/C and it hasn’t been plugged to charge for the past 2 weeks.

out of the blue the screen is now popping out in the middle and we can see that the battery is swollen lifting the glass. The iPad doesn’t have extended warranty.

This is not normal! We have 3 older iPads in the house and this never happened.

Anyone else out there had the same problem?

Is Apple replacing defective batteries?

It is not normal, but only Apple can tell you what your options are. Do not even try to use that device. Schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar for evaluation and options.
