I have searched for an answer for what should be a simple question and have gotten nowhere because whatever instructions I come up with are inaccurate when I attempt them on my iPad.
there are times I need to find a certain word on a web page so I don't waste time scanning the entire page. This was a very easy task on Windows but seems impossible on an iPad. I'd appreciate any advice.

It's actually pretty easy.
On any web page you are in in Safari, at the top right hand corner of the page you see a box with an up arrow.
Tap that box and search for Find on Page
