Text Messaging - iPhone Integration with Ford Sync

It is unfortunate that a technology leader such as the iPhone is missing a significant feature that RIM and Android have, and likely losing market share accordingly.

Through the "Message Access Profile" bluetooth profile, Ford Sync cars (1+ million sold to date) have the ability to read out your text messages via bluetooth, ensuring that the driver isn't distracted. With so many laws banning driver distractions (hand-free requirements, no text messaging initatives), this is a significant safety issue for today's iPhone owners.

I have seen many posts for years from users wishing that Apple would get on board with this technology, but so far it hasn't been raised as a viable option to implement.

Please reply to this thread if you are one of the 1+ million Ford Sync owners who also own an iPhone and wish this feature was implemented. I luckliy own both a BlackBerry and an iPhone, but not all people do.

I have a 65 plate focus with sync 2. The text message receiving has worked pretty well for me up to a day or two ago. However like you my sent messages never get to their destination although they say “sent”.

Now sync says my iPhone 6s does not support text messaging by Bluetooth. I think it might be something in the iPhone settings as I’ve messed about with them so that the phone :

a - allows people to contact me whilst I’m driving.

b - connects to Siri whilst I’m driving.

I’ll try the MAP settings idea and report back if I have an answer.

As an after note - Siri does read messages and replies work fine. You can do basic things like check the weather and read messages but she will not surf the web while you are driving.

To set Siri up make sure she’s available in lol screen then while in the car hold the sync talk button down for about five seconds and Siri should appear.

I agree, I love the IPhone, however I love my Lincoln too and would sure like the two to work seamlessly together. Voice text, phone numbers with photos, etc. I just don't understand why apple, with such a great product is afraid to work with ford on this. Is it because sync is a Microsoft product? I think that they should worry less about that and more about keeping their customers happy, after all there are more iPhone like phones coming out all the time. I would definitely look at the features if some of these if they work better with my car. Who knows, if they are comparable I might just switch.

Ford is planning on having over 80% of their lineup with sync, apple had better get with it because that is a lot of vehicles and cell phones.
