I recorded a phone interview with a client that I then uploaded to FCPX. I've spent hours cleaning up this audio and doing necessary edits and want to save these edits by creating a duplicate audio file that I can store on my external hard drive but have no idea how to quickly and easily do this. Any help is appreciated.
I made a new project called "Desert Botanical Gardens." I edited the clip in the timeline after I dragged the clip from the place where the clips are imported into (can't remember the name of this area on FCPX, but you can see it in the screenshot) the project under "All clips").
In the export window one of the lower options is "where to send" a file automatically after it is created. Eg. iTunes
If you select "Do Nothing" this option allows you to pipe the finished export to anything connected to your Mac.
Hard Drive, USB thumb drive, SD Card etc.
You do a manual destination setup.

Tom, that certainly helped...thank you. I was able to "Share" this file with my desktop and then I was going to drag it from the desktop into my connected external hard drive. But when I listened to this shared audio portion that is on my desktop, it was not the edited version that I spent hours and hours working on in the timeline but the imported, unedited version I initially uploaded into FCPX. How do I "share" just the edited version I worked on in the Timeline and not the raw file I imported into FXPX? Thanks for your help; I have definitely made some major progress.
Where did you edit the clip? In a project? What kind of things were you doing to the clip in the project? Post a screenshot of what's happening in the interface. You should edit the clip into a project and export the project.
To make things a bit clearer, the clips I dragged into the timeline from the "All Clips" section were the edited clips that I wanted to save into my external hard drive. But those edited clips were not saved...just the clip in the "All Clips" section, the raw, unedited clip.
It doesn't look as if you created a project. Scrolling up the the browser (All Clips) and look to see if there's a project at the top of the list. What's open in the timeline is something that looks like maybe Desert Botanical Garden Consultation 8-15-2019. Is that the name of the project? Maybe you made the edits inside a clip. Try exporting the clip,
Tom, that did it! Thank you so much. I was able to copy the edited audio tracks that I spent hours and hours on to my external hard drive where at least, in case of a FCPX disaster, I can have a backup of all the editing that I did on this particular project. In fact, this has solved a mystery that I have had to deal with for years with FCPX: how to take projects from FCPX and make a backup file on my external hard drives. Thanks again!
Al, I need to thank you also because your suggestion to "double click" on my project icon solved the mystery. As I posted to Tom, this has allowed me to save a backup copy to my external hard drive. I thank you and Tom for your time and expertise!
Please confirm you double clicked the project icon in browser which opened it in the timeline. What did you see? Does it play correctly? What exactly did you do to export?
Yes, Tom, I did create a project and titled it "Desert Botanical Garden." Please see the red arrow in the attached screenshot.
Go to "File", "Share", Export mp3 only"
A little bit misnamed, you actually can choose several audio file formats.
I did as you suggested but there is nothing close to "Export mp3 only."
Share Master File. In the top popup in settings select Audio only. Choose the format you want and export to wherever you want to store the file.
Double click the Project icon and it will open in the Timeline.

Yes, all the edits I ever do I only do in the timeline. I’m wondering if this is incorrect.
