and
what if it's not???

You look on your current desktop. Click on the Apple symbol and then go to "About This Mac". You'll get a screen saying what model Mac you have. Then compare it to this list of Mojave compatible Macs:

macOS - How to Upgrade - Apple

    • MacBook (Early 2015 or newer)
    • MacBook Air (Mid 2012 or newer)
    • MacBook Pro (Mid 2012 or newer)
    • Mac mini (Late 2012 or newer)
    • iMac (Late 2012 or newer)
    • iMac Pro (2017)
    • Mac Pro (Late 2013; Mid 2010 and Mid 2012 models with recommended Metal-capable graphics cards)

If you have El Capitan, the part we need to know is where the arrow is pointing in this image:

It is the part in parenthesis with a screen size and a year. The computer has to be Mid 2012 or newer to run Mojave because the necessary hardware was not included when older models were produced, and that hardware cannot be retrofitted to older units.

I did what you said
I have OS X EL Capitan 10.11.6
I must be able to update it but when I tried app store said " this version of mac OS 10.14.6 cannot be installed on this computer "
what's the problem????
why can't I update it?

Which computer is it? It needs to be on the list that I posted earlier.
