Location of Media Folder

I have my media on a NAS (Drobo 5N2) and when I look at the Preferences window, it shows the folder as on the Macintosh HD in the default location. I know I had to move the iTunes library to the main HD because of issues with storing it on a NAS. The "Macintosh HD/User/Name/Music/iTunes Media" folder has all of the information about the iTunes, "Album Artwork," "iTunes Library," "iTunes Extras," "iTunes Genius," and an "iTunes Media" folder with nothing but an empty "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder and a couple ".plist" files.


Is it OK if I change the location of the Media folder on my NAS, moving the contents of the iTunes folder, except for the iTunes library files?

See Make a split library portable - Apple Community for some general background on the layout of the iTunes library. iTunes and NAS don't always work well together, but it is the one time a split library makes sense as performance really suffers if the library is being read over the network. The other files you mentioned are supporting files for the .itl and stay in the same location. Simply update the path to the media folder under iTunes > Preferences > Advanced so that new media goes to your NAS and not the iTunes Media folder on the internal drive.
