Change file container from MP4 to MOV

I'm referring to this question (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7894857?answerId=31522908022#31522908022) and I'd like to know how exactly you change a file's container from MP4 to MOV. @kisss256

.mov files will not play in QuickTime I imported video clips from an SD card 5-10 years ago using iMovie's import media functionality. I now have Big Sur on my new iMac, and while the clips still play if opening the iMovie Library through iMovie, they do not play when opening the individual clips from the iMovie Events folder using QuickTime. They are .mov files, and I get the error, "This file contains some media which isn’t compatible with QuickTime Player." It then proceeds to open the files but will only play the audio. I want to back up these older clips to iCloud, but if the .mov files will not play, what is the point? Do I need to convert them somehow in order to back them up and play them on various devices in the future?

Copying or not copying media into the Final Cut library I'm editing a movie which has a 15GB video file. It resides on my hard drive, so I don't need another copy of it within the project, so I import it without copying to library, but after that, I want all media I put in, like stills and plugins, to be stored in the library so that they are always there. Is it possible to tell Final Cut not to import the giant file, but to import everything else? That is, if I turn that feature on and off in Settings, does it work as intended depending on the setting? Or can I leave it set to store all media in the library, but then import an individual file without copying it, but without having to go into Settings to change the Import setting?

You can open the video in QuickTimePlayer and then do a File/Export and it will export as a .mov file. However, .mov is a bucket that can contain various codecs and so not all .mov files are the same. You will need to experiment to see if it works for your purposes. I would first make a duplicate of your Mp4 and work with the duplicate so that you preserve our original.
